This is just great. Husband and wife spent a whole lot of sleepless nights putting this together and it turned out beautifully. It only took about 40 seconds for me to appreciate what they did and to imagine how much work it must of taken between the two of them.

I've seen this awhile back and have no idea why I didnt put this up before. This is a short that Ryan Woodward created. Ryan got together with a choreographer, and with her and a couple of dancers created a short that is just absolutely inspiring. I know for me it pushes me to want to be the best artist I can be. I cant say enough about this see for yourself. If you havent seen this before, Im pretty sure you might of seen the animation he did for a google doodle he created that came out earlier this year on Google.com

When I left AM, I was left with a little bit of bitterness because I didnt submit my work for their showcase. Now it goes with out saying that it doesn't necessarily mean that my work would of been chosen, but I still wish I would of at least tried. So it brings me so much joy to see my work on the Ianimate showcase. I used my regret from AM to push myself to get my work on Ianimates showcase. Thank you so much to Jacob Gardner for his marvelous guidance along with everyone that has helped me get to this point in my animation AM, family, and friends. Thank you all.

Im at the 2 minute mark. A bit blown out from the original one that I submitted but Im still a happy camper!

So far things at ianimate are going pretty cool. Ive been so busy with work, ianimate, and my little guy started preK. It getting the little guy ready for is no easy task. Ive been going to meetings, filling paper work, helping with homework (which my little booger loves...we'll see how long that last lol), getting lunch ready for school, basketball practice, etc... Lots of work!!! On top of that Ive been doing crazy hours at work because of a deadline we had to meet and doing my class work. That equals to very little sleep. But its cool I love being a dad and all the perks that come with it.

Ianimate is going great so far. Now that my schedule is calming down and Im getting use to my new schedule with my little boy going to school, Im hoping to really put a lot more time into the assignments. And starting next week Ill be jobless but Im kind of looking forward to it. More time to animate and spend with my little guy. I need the break. Dispite the crazy schedule Ive been in this month I think my assignment is coming along pretty good but Ill be able to add more spark to it pretty soon. Ill add it to my reel hopefully by the end of next month.

I just saw this short by Justin Burks. I really enjoyed watching this short along with the making of it. So many awesome silhouettes in the 2nd half of the short. As I watched it made think about how much emotion come out through the eyes alone. I need to study eyes like this. I think Justin and his team did a great job conveying this through the simplistic eyes of the characters. Great animation!

Man, its true. Im Surprised I can remember my password!!! As much...better said, as little as I log in. I'm always busy studying, work, or showing my little guy the world (southern cali actually). Well, so what has happen lately? I got a chance to work on Smurfs and Harry Potter!!! So now I have 3 films under my belt but still havent got a chance to be a character animator on a film yet. uuuugh!!! Frustrating at times. Its been tough lately, because the last couple of months Ive kind of strayed away from animation to learn some other things in VFX. Its actually to help me get some more things on my reel and learn more to make myself more marketable in the smaller studios. Plus, Im looking to get a condo so I need the extra cash. BUT... Although, not confirmed yet, I should be joining a new set of students and mentors at iAnimate!!! So keep posted!!! but the way I post maybe check every few months lol.

Man, like I said its frustrating when you're really trying hard to get somewhere but I know as long as I keep working at it Ill get there. Its been hard on me over the past few years and I have gone through some really tough times, toughest times of my life so far. Times I dont wish on others, but at the end of the day I tell myself life isnt easy, its meant to be tough. Once you go through the tough situation it toughens you up and prepares for other things that come your way. You just have to keep your tranquility and keep your dream alive no matter what comes your way!!! I sometimes think great people that make it in life always have great stories to tell, I may never be great but Ill have a story to tell and I hope to be an example of when you keep that dream alive and strive for it that you can make it come true. I remember a few years ago, before I had ever worked in anything in the industry, driving to my internship down the PCH looking at the ocean and just telling myself one day Ill be driving to work. Flash forward a few years and it it happen. Small and simple, not over exciting but inspires me to keep going and hopefully in the future Ill be thinking about when I use to write posts of dreaming of working as a Character Animator for a film.

Well, Ill give a quick in site of whats going down with me. So last year I ended my year working at Blind on a video game trailer. A lot of pressure on that job, being that I was hired as there rigger and then helped out in the animations. The rigging process was the tough part I had only been rigging for less than a year when I got hired and Blind is a pretty prestigious studio in the motion graphics world which I didnt know until I got there. But I got through it and really appreciate being around all the talent and it really helped me grow as an artist.

This year I started my first gig at Buck animating for a couple of days which was cool. Im currently working on my first film. So thats really exciting. Its only for the beginning credits but its one step closer to a full animation feature film which I hope to work on one day. I dont think it has really hit me yet but I cant wait to see it on the big screen. I dont care if I have to go by myself but Im going to go and see it. When I really get deep into it, its an amazing feeling. My work is going to be seen around the world, on the big screen, DVDs, and TV. WOW!!! Maybe not a big deal for others, but c'mon its my first movie!!!

Again, I was hired as a rigger/ animator. I need to be careful though I dont want to get stuck as a rigger. I can appreciate what a rigger does and what it takes to be one because with out rigging theres no animation but Im an animator that happens to know a bit about rigging.

Well, thats my post for today. The best of luck for myself this year as I continue to grow and learn as an artist and keep reaching to become an animator for a feature film.

Look it that...A post just a little over a month since my last. Not so bad :)

Sooo, I got extremely lucky and landed a new gig just a few weeks after my last job ended and a very well known motiongraphic studio at that. Im at Blind Studios working on a video game cinematic. What cracks me up is that I got hired as a rigger initally, but Ill be animating also. When my last job ended I told myself I wouldn't go into a job as rigger. I know I know maybe I shouldn't of put that on my reel right...but when money is scarce and you don't know when the next gig will come you do what you gotta do lol. Well, its all good I consider it a blessing. I've been learning so much being that the technicalities (did I spell that right lol) were some what beyond my knowledge. Its been stressful and at times I thought to myself if I was actually going to be able to do this, but I have (so far at least). The feeling of accomplishing something even when you think you may not be able to do it is wonderful and motivates me to keep at it. I mean its not an easy road to the top but I have to keep pushing myself. Anyhow, the people here are great and willing to lay a helping hand. Its funny at my last job I knew many of the people going in because I went to school with a lot of them. At my new job I knew no one! Im the new kid on the block I have less than a year in the indusrty while almost everyone there has 10+ years experience...again Im extremely lucky.
Well, I'll try to post again soon but we all know how that goes.lol

So its been over a year since the last post and Ive beeen through a lot...a whole
lot. To keep it positive though, after all the internships, I finally landed my first job!!! Although, I intially got hired as a compositor...but there's no shame in that game. Unfortuantely, the gig is wrapping up but I got to meet a lot of great people and make friends. It was an awesome starting point for me. I got a lot of experience out of it and got to get my first animation to come out on the tele.
The search is on again!!! And I am finally getting a step toward my ultimate goal of character animtor on a feature.

Good grief. Its been awhile...a long while. So unfortunately I had to discontinue going to AM because I was dealing with a lot at the time. The plan was to wait until Decemnber when I finished and then start job hunting... BUT!!! Didnt work out that way for muah. I had to get on it and start looking now. And after over 40 reels sent out (which is actually a small amount) nothing. I did land this internship a few weeks ago. Its 2d mostly though but it does give me an opportunity to learn after effects and meet some really cool people. Everyone there is great. Ill just keep learning and hope to land that dream job soon. I do miss AM though maybe later I can go back and touch up.

AAAAAGh!!! I wanted to post my last weeks of work at AM but I got a virus on my PC. I had been telling myself to back it up...hehe "back it up" Anywho, thats what laziness does to you. Ill get it fixed when I have some more cash. Well, gotta go hope to put up some more posts.

So here it is my new progress reel!!! I might put a newer one later with a rendered version of my lipsync but I might just render it in a few weeks because next week I finally get facial controls. Hopefully, that should be it unless she finds something this last time around. So I didnt have much to do this week. It gave me a chance to play with the rendering. Yikes!!! This was a super tiring week for me I was so shot full of energy drinks that I was running circles around my hyper son. Lol thats kind of a ironic statement. Anyways, this week I put in a lot of time so that I could make up for lost time during the previous week. I was able to get a lot done but still had some things that I wish I of could worked on some more.

Term 3 - Week 8

UUUUUUgh!!! This week sucked mostly because my little guy was sick. I hate it so much when he gets sick. He's still a baby, well to me at least (2 yrs old), and when ever he gets sick I feel terrible because I can tell he suffers through it. Fortunately, during the day he was playing around and having fun but at night my poor little guy couldnt sleep because his stuffed up little nose kept him up. One night he even got a fever and I had to take him to the ER. Fortunately again, it went down when we got there and he was smiling on the way home. If you ever see this I love you fatboy!!! Well, since I only really have a chance to work on my animation in the middle of the night when everyone is sleeping my son being sicking this week was my main concern and I barely got anythinng else done. I was hoping to go into spline but instead stayed in blocking and just worked out some things that needed tweaking. I was lucky my mentor only had 2 minor things that she felt needed tweaking. Some more up and in the hips when he shifts his weight and she wanted me to give it a different ending. At the end of the clip it says "then her sister walks in" and Dana (mentor) wanted me to give some sort of reaction to it. I didnt get to that this week though. Well, here it is.

Here is what Ive been waiting to do all this time. SOME LIPSYNC BABY!!! lol I was so excited to finally get the bishop character and wanted to have fun with this...The only thing that took me by surprise for the first few seconds when I was checking out the Bishop rig was that HE HAS NO FACIAL EXPRESSION CONTROLS, then I realized wait a minute this is a good thing. This way we only concentrate on the body. GREAT JOB AM!!! I later found out that the first three week of term 4 is where we go in start putting in his facial expressions. Im really excited about that. That should be hella fun!!! Well, here goes my first pass at blocking.

So Im finally in my first acting class at AM. Its going to be lots of fun. I have to say fo my other classes I kind of already went into each class with some ideas to work witj but in the new new class Im completely clueless on what animations to come up with. Regardless, Im glad to be back after my break. Which really wasnt a break because I was working on things that needed tweaking. Anywhooo. My mentor for this class is Dana Boadway. Im excited to be in her class my last mentor Dimos said shes a good mentor, not that any of the mentors are bad, but I think he personally knows her and knows how she teaches. Unfortunately, she doesnt have a website so I cant put a link up to see her work but shes done work on Halo 3, The Wild, and The Backyardigans to name a few. This term is going to really be rough on me because my class starts at 11am which is not the most convenient time for me because at that time my 2 year old son is wide awake and with him running around and wanting attention its hard for me to really interact with the rest of the class. Well, hope I do good in this class I ended last term with some really kind and motivating words from my last mentor that really gave me some hope that one day Ill become an animator and I really appreciate that Dimos. THANKS!!!. I hope I can keep the momentum going as my journey continues...

So I finally got the assignment done polished it, got it into frame budget, and added some minor details. Dont mind that it says blocking in the video. Its actually in spline now just didnt get a chance to type in "Final" into my shot mask. I might go in and slightly tweak some things before I render it out but for now Im pretty happy with it.

I finally thought of an idea that I feel works for the ending. Unfortunately, its carrying me over my frame budget. So on my last pass at it Im going to cut off some things that I feel arent that necessary for the shot. There are some things that are a bit funky because Im trying out this new work flow that Ive been trying to do this whole term. Which is to stay in blocking as long as possible. Which was suggested my our mentor Dimos. THANKS!!! GREAT WORKFLOW!!! So Im still in blocking in this pass at it although some parts are starting to look smooth.

So here goes my next and final assignent for the term. I had a rough time with this assignment it's pretty rough due to the fact that I only had one day to work on it. I had issues with my camera and wasnt able to import the footage into my computer for reference. So unfortunately I had to spend most of my time during the week trying to get that darn footage uploaded. This has pretty much the idea Im going for though.

So here's the hoe down. My second term at AM started a little over 3 weeks ago BUT because again Im always pushing 25 hours into a 24 hour day its been juuuust a weeee bit difficult Ill try to keep up. When I started my second term I had Joe Mandia as my mentor but because of the schedule I had to switch to Dimos Vrysellas both are really cool guys and have a long history in the animation world. So week 1 was me getting vido reference for my assignment and making sketches for it. My assignment was to do a 180 turn of the AM character Ballie.

I want to thank my mentor Bryan Engram for all the help and support he gave me. He's an awsome guy and I hope to meet him in person one day and personally thank him. I had a chance to meet him while I was student volunteering at Siggraph 08 here in L.A. (Ill post some pics up later)at the AM party but I bathe my son and put him to sleep around the time the party started so unfortunately I wasnt able to meet him... Hopefully one day though.Well, thanks for all your help Bryan!!!

I was busy with AM, work, another school I was also going to, my internship at Pixel Liberation Front, teaching myself XSI, working on a project for my old professor/friend, and on top of that I still come home to be with my loving little boy...Soooo yeah thats a lot. I've been very busy so I havent had chance to post anything from Animationmentor yet. So I decided to get started with a little silhouette image of my buddy Spike from AM. Also, let me tell you guys that this quarter I was set up with Bryan Engram. Bryan is an Animation Supervisor at Reel FX Creative Studios. Some of his work, to name a few, is included in The Wild, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles, and game cinematics for Halo 2 and Transformers. So far my class is off to great start with Bryan. He is great guy and glad to have as my mentor. I'm sure Im going to learn a lot.
